Treatment Tools

We offer the following treatment tools:
Electro Therapy Modalities | Physiotherapy Approaches

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical stimulation is a treatment proven to provide pain relief, strengthen and re-educate injured muscles, and promote tissue and wound healing. Electrical stimulation is the application of skin electrodes, or the insertion of acupuncture needles to be used as deeper electrodes, to run small, specific electrical currents through your tissue. Our Physiotherapists have extensive experience and knowledge of the wide variety of electrical stimulation settings that may be used to best treat your pain and disability.

Ultrasound Therapy

This therapeutic machine has high frequency sound waves. Devices producing ultrasound have many uses in health care, but physiotherapists use therapeutic ultrasound to promote healing, increase circulation and decrease pain in injured tissues. Our team utilizes therapeutic ultrasound to treat a wide array of soft tissue injuries and dysfunction, including sprains, strains, arthritis, and in post-surgical healing.

Short Wave Diathermy (SWD)

Short Wave Diathermy (SWD) is a treatment that uses electromagnetic energy to produce deep heating in joints and soft tissues. This form of heat can be applied to deeper structures than other forms of heat treatment. Thus SWD can effectively relieve joint pain, improve soft tissue healing and decrease the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Our physiotherapists are knowledgeable and experienced in the appropriate application of SWD.

Spinal Traction

Spinal Traction can provide relief of symptoms of spinal nerve irritation or compression by changing the pressure on the nerve and its blood supply. This relief of irritation to the nerve creates the correct physical environment for it to rebound and regain its natural healthy state. Traction, combined with education regarding the best positioning for your spine, will aid in recovery and prevention of future episodes of nerve compression.

Physiotherapy Approaches

Soft Tissue Physiotherapy Treatment

Team Homephysiotherapist may use a variety of manual treatments on your muscles, fascia (the fibrous connective tissue around the muscles) and skin, including trigger point treatment, stretching and connective tissue massage. Additionally, you may be referred to a sports physiotherapist as an adjunct to your physiotherapy treatments.

Taping

The application of specialized medical or sports tapes may be used as part of your care. The tape is applied directly to your skin in order to maintain a stable position of bones, joints and/or muscles during your daily activities, or to provide feedback to your body to assist with muscle retraining, joint protection and pain reduction. Taping can also be used to help reduce swelling in injured tissue.

Patient Education

An important part of any treatment program is patient education. Team Homephysiotherapist wants to empower you to participate in improving your function and mobility. By providing you with evidence-based information about your condition and your treatments, your physiotherapist will enable you to contribute to your own ongoing best health and movement.

Manual Therapy

Manual or ‘Hands-on’ Therapy care takes many forms. Our physiotherapists are highly educated in safe and effective methods of mobilizing your joints and tissues.
The movement has the benefit of enhancing the blood supply to a region that may be very stiff and painful. Your therapist can gently move your joints in ways that you are unable to. These passive mobilizations are performed by your physiotherapist in a gentle rhythmic fashion and have a significant influence on calming pain pathways and reducing muscle tone.
The end result is less pain, more movement and better function.

Exercise Prescription

There are many types of instructors in the world of fitness and each provide a valuable service to their clients. Our goal is to provide instruction on movement and strengthening that is specific to both your body and your condition.

People with injuries and painful conditions require a thorough assessment prior to exercising. Knowledge and understanding of the causes of your injury are necessary to prescribe movement and activity that will benefit you and not worsen your condition.

Team Homephysiotherapist , with our physiotherapy training and experience in diagnosing injuries and dysfunctions, we are uniquely positioned to give accurate guidance regarding appropriate exercise specific to your needs.
